Amber Julian is an Afro-Indigenous multi-disciplinary performance artist, choreographer, educator, and mentor. Her work centers and uplifts connection to her lineage and roots through movement and storytelling.
Because she believes that dance is medicine, there is a heavy emphasis and exploration of alchemy, reclamation, social justice, and restoration. As the Director and Choreographer of Onyx Dance Company, Amber explores the intersections of ancestry and embodied liberation through Black dance forms such as Hip Hop, House, Whacking, and Afro-fusion styles.
Her choreography creates space for dancers to find their voice, using movement to engage real-world issues and lived experiences with honesty and intention.
